Nurse Training and Development

Introduction to nursing teams and their role

Our nursing team support the clinicians in the diagnosis and treatment of patients throughout their stay. Nurses are patient advocates, providing care and compassion for pets 24 hours a day. They are able to build a relationship with both pets and their owners and work co-operatively with clinicians to achieve the highest standards of care.

Becoming a referral nurse at NWVS

We welcome qualified RVN’s with a variety of experience and you don’t need to have previous referral experience to join our team and start the journey to become a specialist nurse. Required training is structured into an individually tailored induction programme where new recruits are supported by mentors and regular progress reviews completed.

Professional development

Nurses are allocated a generous CPD allowance including time off from work to attend specialist courses / events. In addition to this, we offer a varied in-house CPD programme of sessions delivered by both our specialist clinicians and nursing team. This allows us to design CPD to suit the needs of both the hospital and discipline teams. All nurses are supported in achieving their professional goals, including completion of advanced qualification such as VTS, diplomas and degrees.
