Covid-19 Update: July 2021
At Northwest Veterinary Specialists (NWVS) we are continuing to accept routine, urgent and emergency referrals, whilst supporting local veterinary practices by providing advice via telephone or email for complex cases.
As the Covid situation evolves, we at Northwest Veterinary Specialists, whilst maintaining quality and our high standards of care, are continually reviewing the health, safety and wellbeing of our patients, clients and associates and we will be continuing with the requirement for our clients to wear a face covering (unless exempt*) and adhere to other Covid related measures.
As part of the Covid secure measures in place, we will continue to restrict access to the hospital and consultations will continue to take place in the car park and via the telephone, due to the size of our consultation rooms.
We understand it can be stressful when pets are unwell, and we will do everything we can to minimise this stress for both clients and pets. Upon arrival at NWVS, clients should remain in their cars and telephone 01928 711400 option 4. The Client Care Reception team will then complete any paperwork and the Clinician will telephone to start the consultation
After the detailed telephone consultation, the Clinician will explain the treatment plan and next steps. Should the pet require further examination in a consultation room, the Clinician or Nurse, wearing PPE (masks, googles/face visor, apron and gloves) will then come to collect your pet from the car park. There will be no hand shaking.
We do ask that all our clients, unless exempt*, continue to wear a face covering and use the hand sanitiser available outside the hospital.
NWVS leads will be made available for dogs. Client cat baskets will be taken into the consultation room to safely transfer cats to NWVS cat baskets, returning client’s cat baskets immediately.
During warm weather, pets should not be left in cars, and there is an outside tap with disposable single use cardboard drinking bowls available for pets; please ask at Reception Window 1.
All client paperwork, including insurance information, payments, treatment and financial consent, will be completed via telephone or email where possible. Any pens used are wiped down after each use.
Any clients who are uninsured are advised that a 75% deposit of the estimate is required at consultation.
Payments can be made in person, on-line portal or via telephone; Telephone 01928 711400 option 2 & 2. All Payment PDQ machines are cleaned after each use.
At NWVS we have created a “safe space garden” to allow clients the ability to visit any seriously ill or deteriorating pets. The garden is also an area available should there be the need to say goodbye to a beloved pet where clients and their family can spend this time. Support is available through the Blue Cross to help pet owners during a loss of a pet.
- We can confirm we have complied with the Government’s guidance on managing the risk of COVID-19 by:
- Reviewing RCVS guidelines
- Reviewing our COVID-19 Risk Assessment and Covid secure statement
- All areas of the hospital follow a strict cleaning rota of every two hours where communal surfaces, doors, handles, computers, pens, etc. are wiped down.
- We have a strict hand hygiene policy to wash hands regularly for 20 seconds, and hand sanitiser is provided.
- Adhering to social distancing guidelines, and where not possible, full PPE is worn
- Ventilation throughout the hospital & offices, with windows open and air con on correct settings.
The above measures have been put in place to protect the safety of all our associates and clients. NWVS continues to be committed to providing excellent care to clients and their pets during this time.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding to help keep everyone safe.
