Start your dream job as a referral nurse with us!

Northwest Veterinary Specialists is a multi-disciplinary, specialist-led referral hospital with a team of over 120 people, providing the highest quality of treatment and holistic care for pets 24/7, 365 days a year.

We have services in orthopaedic surgery, soft tissue surgery, neurology, internal medicine, oncology, anaesthesia, diagnostic imaging, and physiotherapy. Each of the clinical disciplines is staffed to European Diplomate or RCVS Specialist standards. Our hospital is well equipped to provide our nurses with the best facilities to provide the best care for our patients.

Our nurse’s aim is to extend their support and knowledge to owners, guiding them through the treatment process as they nurse their pets back to health. Our service-specific nurses support the patient’s journey through the hospital from admission to discharge, ensuring effective treatment and comfort at all times.

We’re located just off J12 of the M56 in Sutton Weaver, Cheshire, meaning our hospital is convenient for travel from Northwest England, North and Mid Wales and further afield.

What can we offer you as a referral nurse?

At NWVS, we have a large and highly qualified nursing team, who work tirelessly to provide our patients with the best possible level of care. Nurses work within their chosen discipline, enabling them to become highly specialised and to understand the detailed needs of patients under their care.

A dedicated team with experienced discipline-specific nurses

Working alongside our multi-disciplinary team of Specialists, residents and interns, our nursing team includes nurses who focus on a range of specialisms giving you the opportunity to specialise in an area you're most interested in. These areas include anaesthesia, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, neurology, oncology, theatre and surgical nursing and opportunities to move within these disciplines.

We also have a team of multi-disciplinary nurses who work across all our services, providing an opportunity for variety if you're keen to work across all disciplines.

We also run a post-registration programme to support RVNs who do not have referral experience.

Don’t just take our word for it

My favourite thing about working here at Northwest is the career progression opportunities. I started here nine years ago as a local veterinary nurse, became permanent as a medicine nurse, and then became the supervisor of that department and now I'm the team leader. Northwest has also supported me throughout my VTS and sent me to Washington DC to sit my exam when I passed about five years ago.

  • Sophie McMurrough, RVN and Veterinary Technician Specialist

I am an RVN here at Northwest Veterinary Specialists. It’s a very special animal hospital. As a patient, care is second to none. I’ve never seen anything like it. My cat, Barbie Rogers, came here a few years ago after a kidney insult and her treatments made me want to work here.
